Gilford has two busy seasons instead of one, and both of them land on septic systems.
Summer is the pavilion. Nine thousand people at a show off Meadowbrook Lane, May through September, and a meaningful number of them stay somewhere — rental houses, family camps, places that sleep six on paper and hold fourteen on a Saturday night in July. Everybody showers before, everybody showers after. That’s a system sized for a normal household getting a hotel’s worth of use inside twenty-four hours, and then again the next weekend.
Winter is Gunstock. The mountain has been running since 1937 and it fills the ski houses on this side of town every weekend from December on. February vacation week is the reliable one for us. Four families in a house, wet gear, laundry going constantly, a tank that hasn’t been pumped since somebody bought the place. Same story, colder.
Then the other winter call — the empty one. A camp shut down for the season, heat set to fifty or off altogether, and a line freezes. Owner shows up in March to a mess that started in January. Those aren’t emergencies exactly, but they feel like it when you walk in.
None of this is unpredictable, which is the point. If your place is going to hold a crowd this weekend, the smart move is a pump-out on Thursday, not a phone call at eleven Saturday night.
If your Gilford place is a rental, book the pump-out for the week before your busy stretch — late May and early December. A scheduled truck on a Tuesday is a fraction of an emergency truck on a Saturday, and the tank doesn’t care which one you pick.
Most of these are simply a tank that filled up faster than anyone expected, and pumping it puts the house back in service that evening. Once it’s down we can see what actually happened — whether you got caught by a big weekend or whether something is broken and this was just the first sign.

Possibly — a line into an unheated building can freeze, especially a shallow run with no flow to keep it moving. We’ll figure out whether it’s ice or a full tank, and we’ll tell you what to change before next winter so it doesn’t repeat.
Not yet, and that’s good news. Slow drains across every fixture at once usually means the tank, not a clog. Get it looked at this week while it’s still cheap and on your schedule instead of somebody else’s.
Yes, and it’s worth doing. Put the properties on a schedule — pumped before the summer run, checked again before the ski season. Costs less than one bad Saturday and your guests never know a septic system exists, which is the goal.
